I've got a scholarship!

Letter

A long awaited news indeed.

I already gave up hope that I would ever be financially secure during my Masters long ago. With all the tales that I've heard of people failing to obtain sponsorship and living off the Pa-ma foundation (i.e. money from parents). After the last meeting with the dean for post graduate studies we were notified that only 22 of the 77 applicants were going to receive aid. With the recent spate of financial troubles, my dad only manages to send over RM500 for the past few months and expendiatures have been tight. It is quite a God send when my supervisor was smiling so broadly when he said he had good news, handing me a copy of the notification letter. Of course he could've avoided mentioning it in the lab which was followed by shouts of 'Wah now rich already can belanja oh' (belanja = treat).

It is also good news that my dad does not have to send financial assistance to me and channel it to other more needed matters, relieving him of quite a huge burden (that of his son smooching of him). I'm entitled to a RM1300 monthly stripend now and more good news is that it's backdated to November 2004, meaning a lump sum payment for then till now. I was quite worried too as my bank account was dwindling down fast and this influx of cash reserve would do well to ensure better financial security for future use.

Several of my collegues also managed to obtain Zamalah or Yayasan UMS scholarships but Johleen was a bit disappointed not to manage to secure one. Well this has been a piece of good news far in between many spates of bad luck and I'm thankful for it. Problem is my Sir is hinting to me to fork out RM2400 for a conference at Bangkok, groan.

That's great news. Congrats. Yeah! I was one of those who had to depend on the PaMa funds for a long time. Now trying hard to prove that their investment was not a waste.

Good for you! So... new piece of electronics from the backdated cheques? I'm worse. I use my advance money for it...

Adrian: What my bank account was flowing down the drain the past few months, this will at least prevent Maybank from deducting RM1 from my account when I withdraw. No more electronics for me content, but maybe need to fork out some to repair my com, if I ever get to it.

Jeremy: Wah want to bankrupt me huh

D2X is a little... steep... I'm thinking of a D70s, and save the money for lenses. Found a shop recently who has 2nd hand lenses. Thinking of the nice 60mm F2.8 macro lens. 8mm manual fisheye and the nice 50mm F1.4 lens. Of course I'm drooling at the 12-22mm F2.8 also, but cant afford that one...

Yeah I know, nothing can replace that "Leica Glow". well, its sad that Leica isnt doing very well these days though, but I really wish that their lenses will come down in price. I'm really really thinking of buying the Panasonic DMC-L1 digital camera, it has a nice 28/2 Leica designed lens.

As of now, I cant afford any of the expensive rangefinder cameras. The MP costs a cool 420k Yen, and that Summicron 50/2 costs 163k Yen, the total of which, I'd rather buy a 2nd hand sports car where I am.

Did manage to find the old manual Ai Nikkor 50/1.4 and 24/1.4, which I'll be pretty happy with once I get the D70s with its 1.5x FOV crop. Pretty cheap too, less than 20k Yen a piece...

Mmm good pic, love the glow as you term it, very surreal, man the items you all are quoting are way off my price range.
