Sales, sales and more book sales

Hardly has the Deepavali sales and the Raya sales been over that we shoppers were inundated with the Christmas season. It seems a little hasty when as Raya rolls over the décor in the malls were quickly swapped with Christmas ones; ketupats were taken down and in their places were candy canes; “Balik kampong” has morphed into “I’m dreaming of a white Christmas”; green and yellow decors with oil lamps and sparklers in turn gave way to Santas, reindeers and snow caped village scenes. Yes the year end is a very fruitful time for merchants with the long strings of holidays and celebrations and I can bet that as soon as December 25th passes, preparations will be on the way for the New Year sales and than followed by the Chinese New Year Sale before retreating to a much needed hiatus until the next cycle.

But that’s not really what I wanted to state in this post :D The main event today was a shopping spree at Popular Kota Kinabalu’s official launch along with the book fair for the whole of next week. It’s been a while since Kk has seen so many good book titles, it was murder to hunt down the latest editions of popular magazines and fiction but now it has all been made up for. With discount of 50%, 30%, 20% and 10% what a bargain! So for most of the afternoon I was rummaging through the titles and in the end went off with a whole hand load of reading materials. This is much needed as the last week of lectures and talks had sorely depleted my reading materials (I finished 5 books this week) and thus the shopping spree. Oh well I can always justify it as an early Christmas shopping for myself :D Got a 30% for Sabriel by Garth Nix, Patricia Cornwell’s Blowfly and Digital Fotress by Dan Brown and a 10% discount on Agatha Christie’s the labours of Hercules. Not a bad haul for under RM90.
