Music Man

Gong

An antique seller that is a frequent sight at the weekly Gaya Street tamu (market). Their cacophony of musical ensemble which includes kulintangan (a local version of copper gongs of varying sizes), kompangs (a percussion instrument made by stretching dried animal hide over a circular wooden frame), drums and this giant antique gong manned by the family members. Admitingly it is a good way to attract customers, of which they are never short of onlookers and admirers as their music can be heard far and wide throught the streets on Sunday mornings. Gaya Street, Kota Kinabalu, 2004.
