Tapak Sireh

Tapak-Sireh

The traditional tapak sireh is usually a Malay family's heirloom, passed on from generation to generation. It is used ceremoniously for weddings and special celebratory occasions or even on a daily basis. Stored within are most of the necessary ingredients to make a sireh, a leaf that once chewed releases a mild stimulant which is often served with grounded lime, a few slices of betel nut and others. Some uses it for its mild narcotic high to keep awake or to relieve tiredness. This silver tray will surely cost for its intricately designed body. Kota Kinabalu, 2006.
