Moody Monday: Fake

Colmar01

The recreation of any theme often find it hard to recapture the authentic feel of the original that they strive to copy. These fake facades often only look like the real thing but can never have the life, spirit, drive and atmosphere that one might experience if you were really there. Colmar Tropical sets out to emulate an alpine French village with recreations of village houses, ye olde inns, wells, Parisian outdoor cafes, fake decor and cultural acts to simulate the site, often authenticity is lacking and what we get is a mere facimile. Colmar Tropical, Bukit Tinggi, Pahang, 2004.

I can't understand why they spend millions of dollars to create a fake thing which stands out like a sore thumb. I would rather they create something Malaysian. But thats just me.

They already have look at things like mini Malaysia, it's sterile, unrepresentative of the actual culture and lets face it boring. I agree that certain places should be more Malaysian in character but I believe walking down our streets and markets we find culture that is more authentic than all the advertistment and parades can ever bring forth.

I love the place and look beyond the buildings. It's a sanctuary to me.

bayi: :D not complaining about the place just the concept, the air is cool, liked that and the Japanese tea garden was heavenly and serene, just the idea of a pseudo French-Japanese resort in the midst of a Malaysian highland can seem a bit outlandish. Hehe the decor for the French village can be a bit overdone. As long as they don't make a Penangland anywhere I'll be happy :D
