Hari Peladang, Penternak dan Nelayan 2005

Celebrations to commemorate Hari Peladang, Penternak dan Nelayan (Farmers, Breeders and Fishermen Day) 2005 are underway at the Tamu KPD grounds near Kota Kinabalu. The various open aired stalls have been temporarily converted into showcases whereby various agencies are displaying the newest products and innovation in the field of agriculture. The theme for this year is "Pertanian suatu perniagaan" (Agriculture is a type of business) most probably to highlight efforts to modernise the field of agriculture as well as to dispel the notion that it is a low technology venture whereas business practices can be used to improve agriculture practices as well as to better market the products.

The festival will last for three days starting today and features exhibit booths, eatery outlets servinf various products, fresh vegetable and fruit stalls, livestock exhibits, handycraft displays as well as a seafood fest. The officiating of the ceremonies was carried out this morning with the Coastal highway packed with cars along the laybys and traffic policemen busy directing movements. Kompang players were at hand to greet the VIP and representative from various organisations related to agriculture were present in their own distinctive uniforms to take part. Early on the stalls were busy getting last minute preparations ready and many traders are taking advantage to hawk their wares on the fairground. Exhibits include some of the following;

A chicken residing at the entrance of the Farmer's association booth.
